What Do Covers Say?

Working on making a poster in anticipation of Jacqueline Woodson’s visit to my school next week — and finding images of the book covers of middle grade and YA titles by her.  The fact that quite a few of the covers feature brown people without their faces shown feel uncomfortable to me.   Don’t know how others might feel… 

Of course, there are plenty of other books and different editions featuring prominently the characters’ faces.
